Why is there Lye, a chemical, in my soap?Updated 11 days ago

Our soaps are formulated with naturally derived ingredients, including lye. We include lye in the ingredients section of our soap bars to be completely transparent on how we craft our soap.

Lye is an essential ingredient in all handcrafted, cold-process soaps. It is the catalyst that turns the liquid vegetable oils we use (olive, coconut, etc.) into the hardened product. At the end of the soap-making process, due to the reaction, there is no lye left in the final product.
